Shell Clay 1

Critique from Dani:

  • The end of the shell lifts upward just a bit so pay attention to the subtle nature of the shell
  • Parts of the model are too straight, while the actual form is more rounded and curved
  • When looking at the perspective ellipse of the spiral in the model, the major axis is not as close to the viewer as the major axis of the actual shell
  • Take occasional process pictures and take a break in order to evaluate the model and not create in isolation without taking a step back

Shell Clay 2

Shell Soap 1

  • The end of the shell is too flat but too much of the soap has been curved so to solve this, the overall model needs to be scaled down to account for the roundness of the end.
  • The model is also too long and skinny whereas the shell is shorter and wider, so the soap needs to be trimmed down
  • Think about how the shell is created to inform thinking about form

Shell Clay 3

Wayne

  • Look for edge and shoulder for the structure
  • The spiral of the shell is off because the model is too straight while the real shel is more curved

Q

  • Break the shell into smaller shapes and relationships to better understand the form

Mouse Clay 1

  • The butt of the mouse is too big, a lot of clay needs to be shaved off of the back so that it looks more like the real mouse
  • The space between the scroll and edge of the mouse needs to be reevaluated because the proportion is off
  • The space where people put their hand is not correctly angled, this can be mitigated by learning where the change of material of the mouse is and understanding the planes

Final Shell Forms

Final Mouse Forms

From working on this project, I have learned to look at the subtleties of human made and natural forms. Although I know that many of my models are not exact replicas from the object that I looked at, however I think that for the most part, I captured many characteristics through the models I created.
